Hunger Fighting Hormone For Weight Loss

A hunger-fighting hormone, known as PYY can be increased by eating a protein rich diet, according to the journal Cell Metabolism, published by Cell Press. The hormone has been known to decrease food consumption by one third.

Increasing the protein content of the diet augments the body's own PYY, helping to reduce hunger and encourage weight loss. This is why high protein diets make people feel fuller than a carbohydrate rich diet.
PYY deficiency has also been shown to be a cause of obesity. A high protein diet can increase the hormone available, satiate hunger, and aid in weight loss.
The average Western diet consists of 49% carbohydrate, 35% fat, and 16% protein. A high protein diet consists of lots of nuts, fish, eggs, beans, and lentils.
